About HIT Safety Solutions
Founder Edward C. Hartshorn II is a construction and safety professional with more than 20 years of combined experience supporting construction, industrial, federal, and military work environments.
Edward served 12 years in the U.S. Navy Seabees—the Navy’s Construction Battalions—where he worked as a Naval Safety Officer and Battalion Safety Officer supporting military construction operations throughout the United States, Europe, and Africa, including work connected to Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom. His military background also includes formal heavy-equipment-operator training through Equipment Operator A School at the Naval Construction Training Center in Port Hueneme, California.
In the private sector, Edward has served in safety leadership roles on large industrial and construction projects involving complex contractor coordination, cranes, demolition, excavation, steel erection, utilities, heavy equipment, and other high-risk operations. His experience includes major-crane work, heavy-lift helicopter operations and aviation lift planning for dust-collection-system removal and installation, and safety support across multi-contractor environments.
The Department of the Navy recognized Edward’s safety leadership through the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for developing and implementing crane lift plans, fall-protection procedures, excavation planning, and quality-control safety measures in support of Seabee construction operations in Rota, Spain, and Senegal, Africa.
Through both military and private-sector safety leadership, Edward has developed extensive experience supporting compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA 1910, and OSHA 1926 requirements, with a strong focus on hazard prevention, field accountability, and practical safety leadership.
His approach to safety is practical, field-focused, and built on clear expectations, sound procedures, accountability, and respect for the workforce. He believes the strongest safety cultures are built when people understand and believe in safe work practices—even when no one is watching.
